This is an authentic photo of the cultivar Sapphire.

Gorgeous!!

I *love* my tree peonies, there's just nothing quite like a mature tree peony in its full glory. :0)

not being totally up on my perennial acronyms, I was wondering where you were getting colored "TP" because I was sure they didn't make it anymore- LOL! (and after googling, it appears they do)

SMASHING Peonies!!!!

I just planted Kinkaku in the fall of 2008. The plant grew well this past year and I am so looking forward to this plant becoming a statement in the gardens.

Both of the ones you show are truly beautiful!!!

Sorry, the name is not a recent commercial play.

The cultivar (Lan Baoshi or Sapphire/Blue Gem stone) was developed 40 years ago. It was officially named in 1974 by a famous Asian horticulturist. Correct me if I am wrong, I think he has passed away. We could not change his naming.

A friend told me that it is best to use acid soil. Similar to some hydrangeas, alkaline soil makes the flowers more pale pinkish.
