Rooted Lantana in water when to put in soil?

| Dropping by from the Trees Forum,
About a month ago I accidentally broke a piece of my Lantana off. I trimmed it to 6 inches long applied some rooting hormone I had and stuck it in a bottle of water and stuck it on a window ledge.
Well its rooted!
So now when do I put it in a potting soil type mix? When the roots are 3 inches long? Or as long as the top part?
Also, what's my best chance of over wintering the fella? I have a dim garage I can keep it in, or some spots under poor lighting in the basement. |

| Go ahead and plant it now. Since roots growing in water don't usually have much in the way of root hairs, you'll want to trim off about 1/4 of the foliage before planting, use a root stimulator--such as seaweed extract--and keep it in bright indirect light for a few weeks. Lantanas need sun, however and the best place to overwinter it is in a sunny window or greenhouse. If growing it in the house, the lower humidity will encourage spider mites, so be prepared to spray with soapy water! Good luck! Kevin : ) |
