| Thank you all for your earlier suggestions for perennials that will grow in shade :)
For my birthday (in three weeks) my husband said he will buy me some gallica roses! Thanks to the antique roses forum and CMK, I have some great pictures I'm looking through right now. I need some perennials that will do well in a mostly sunny location (some late afternoon shade) and look good with the roses. I'm ordering mostly shades of lavender, purple and pink roses....can you believe they come in lavender and purple? Anyway, would love ideas for perennials to compliment them. Thank you! |

Any specific colors that you're looking for?? I have a lot of ideas, but I'm trying to narrow them down. If you can tell me: A-How tall they can get B-How wide they can get C-What color you want the flowers/foliage |

| Do you really want to plant roses this late in your zone? It's hard enough to winter over established flowers but this late it won't have time to set down any roots. |

| Maybe "lav lass" is going to order them now for delivery and planting in the spring. At least that's what I would do (in z.4). Perennial geraniums are often used to plant with roses. They come in many shades of blue, blue-purple, various shades of pink, white or cream, and purple-black. Most can be cut back after blooming to give a tidier appearance and sometimes more bloom. |

| Oilpainter- I'm new to gardening, but not that new! (LOL) My plan is to order them for spring, and I want to know what perennials I want to order, in case I have any money left over from the roses :) It's not a huge garden and I think geraniums would look great ontnative..is that Ontario? We have snow on the ground and I won't be able to plant anything until late April, with the roses going in during the end of May/first of June. That's when I planted my two Fantin Latours this year. So far, they look great! Any recommendations on gallica rose nurseries? Also best place to get lavender or purple geraniums and white, pink or lavender phlox (the tall perennial)? I like white, blue, pink, purple, lavender and maybe a little yellow for this garden. I already have some butterfly bushes on the ends, coneflowers, a guara, some white peonies and a few small roses . Thanks :) |
