| Can anyone tell me the differences/similarities between polar star & halo white hollyhocks? Is either one the species ficifolia?
Thanks! |

| Although I am not a fan of Alcea, but your question stirred my curiosity. Did a little search. It appears they are from different sources of hybridizers and series, but look very similar. The 'Polarstar' is from the 'Spotlight' Series of Jelitto, and is noted as 'first year flowering' from seeds. (see links: http://www.gpnmag.com/Alcea-Spotlight-Series-article11751 and https://www.jelitto.com/haupt_en.html) The 'Halo White' is from Thomson & Morgan bicolour 'Halo' series. (see link: http://mygarden.rhs.org.uk/blogs/graham_rice/archive/2011/09/23/hollyh ock-halo-mixed-new-bicoloured-variety.aspx) |

| Thank you, garcan, for the links. It was especially kind of you since, as you say, you're not a fan of Alcea. Those were different sources than my own search turned up. If I'm still wishing for a side-by-side comparison when I'm ready to order, I may get both kinds and check them out for myself. Thank you again! |

| They are basically identical, just different breeders. Neither are A. ficafolia |
|
| That's good information, especially since I can't find Polarstar seeds, only plants. |

| Just realized that the Jelitto link I posted above is not the pic of 'Polstar'; just the home page of Jelitto. You can get the 'Polstar' seeds from Jelitto by navigating from their product to perennial to Alcea. It is quite pricy; 6.4 euro a package. This place (http://www.swallowtailgardenseeds.com/perennials/hollyhocks.html) in the US carries some Jelitto seed including some Spotlight Series at much more reasonable prices; unfortunately no 'Polstar'. |

| Yeah - I had seen the Polarstar seeds available & the price in euros, but that's a little beyond the amount of hassle I'm willing to go through.... Thanks, though! |
