 o
grebe anyone?

A western grebe crash landed in my driveway yesterday. I've got him chilling in a cooler (ice chest..) during the day and we put him further out of reach of animals at night.

I'm calling the rehab person who takes waterbirds tomorrow to find out for sure if I should just find a big pond to let it go in or take it to them.

I thought it's legs were messed up but I found out they pretty much flat out don't do land on the phone to a rehab person who didn't even know if the person I'm calling tomorrow was closer. I think maybe I can take him out to the national park and release him but I'll have to call first. It's the biggest water body I can think of that's not private.

How's the grebe situation going, Adrea? Hope he's either free as a...bird. :D Or getting some rehab, if needed!

Wow, what an amazing bird to have crash landing in your yard! Are they migrating through or are they residents?

So what did you end up doing?

He was dead when I got home from work the night I posted :( Since odds are he ran out of gas migrating he probably was toast anyhow....
