I need some help with ideas......

....for a parade float. Our small town has a Parade of Lights to kick off the Holiday season and our vet clinic has decided to enter a float. Last year (our first attempt) we did 'Five Goldens Ringing', just a pick-up, 5 golden retrievers, lots of bells, Santa hats...oh yeah, and lots of Christmas lights...unfortunately just before the parade the converter hooked up to the battery had a melt down, so we borrowed a generator to run the lights, which ran outta gas (literally) 1/2 way down Main Street.

Live and learn :)

Anyway, we've been trying to come up with an idea for this year's projest. Animal related (farm or pet), holiday related is better but others ok (last years winner (a whopping $50) was Pirates of the Caribbean). So far we've come up with "Warmest Wishes for the Holidays" - 40 pink flamingos, dog in a lawn chair, palm tree. "Cold Nose, Warm Heart" - ?????. "Babes in Toyland" - 3-4 pigs, Christmas Tree, big wrapped gifts, a few big toys. Or something with a whole litter of St Bernards, or a minature horse. We certainly could rely on stuffed animals instead.

So how 'bout it? Any ideas? I should add, keep it simple and fairly low budget. (We still haven't told the boss we melted down the $60 converter last year)

Let's have some brainstorming here! Thanks!

I don't know about any brainstorming sessions on this end since that prolly requires a brain which I lack... but I'll play along anyway.

    How 'bout "3 Wise Mutts"? I did this as a Xmas card a few years back and it was a hit... {{gwi:173341}}

BTW, running a $60 inverter with that kind of load is asking for trouble. Tell the boss he NEEDS one much better than that for this year's float. You don't want the inverter to run at full capacity. Think overkill! :-)

ah semper, the pups! oops, sorry kitty!

Good ideas you three (wise ones) :) Brenda, don't stop, you're on a roll!!

Unfortunately Herb feels Holiday commercialism is waaayyyy beneath the dignity of a TRUE shepherd, who must care for his flock, not flaunt his good looks, however tempting the tuna treats....

    More, more!!!

Sarah - I love your Babes in Toyland idea and Semper's Three Wise Mutts.

Also - what about a Live Mobile Nativity? Is that too dangerous?

Dr. Doolittle at the North Pole??

Oh, I just noticed in the 3 Wise Mutts pic...the little "baby Jesus" kitty! LOL That is SO adorable, how they're not attacking and killing "baby Jesus." :D

Herb is such a wonderful shepherd. *sigh*

Not enough coffee yet, but I'll let you know if anything else comes to me. :D

    Hi Sarah.

How about the obvious? (For me, any way.)

A float highlighting the *ultimate* gift of selflessness and caring? That is the real meaning of Christmas, isn't it, not Santa!?!?!?!?

A float paying tribute as well as drawing attention to the importance of Service Dogs for Hearing and Service Dogs in general? Maybe JJ and KAO would be available to take a ride in the parade? Certainly it would spark an interest in at least a few people either with a monetary contribution or to help with puppy donation and the training!

It would be a nice way to draw subtle attention to a very important but overlooked aspect of life. People seem to be more in a giving frame of mind around Christmas. It probably would be very nice day for your latest team too if not too cold! :-)
