Yes, those pics are pretty amazing! Incredible what some of those folks went through to get those shots, too, which is often the case with the best photographs and why many of us never get them.

I'm not sure if that great gray owl had been flying directly AT ME if I could have had the nerve to stand there and take a closeup shot BEFORE ducking (nor if my camera could have successfully focused on it as it was moving towards me and still caught it in such sharp focus). That was a combination of a really GOOD camera, and a very skillful and brave (foolhardy?) photographer!

Great photos! Having said that, who says you have to be a "pro" with an AWESOME camera and incredible skills to take great photos??? I still maintain that even the average photographer with an average camera can take great photos with sufficient practice. Here's some of my best work:

Great photos FTM ! I found an Eastern Screech Owl (Red Morph) a few days back and took it to a rehab specialist. Unfortunately it's wing was broken where it connects to the body and could not be fixed. That owl sort of reminded me of him (except the one I found had ear tufts). They are so beautiful.

the poor baby! maybe they could still find him a place at a sanctuary (fingers and toes crossed) where he could have "protected freedom." i once kept a crow until the break was found...took 2 vets to figure it out...it was the clavical. definitely would not fly after that.

No sadly, the rehab folks said the owl would go slowing insane trying to preen, when it could not, so determined it had no reasonable future as an educational owl either. It was euthanized by the vet. Not the most cheerful ending to the story, but better than dying of exposure, starvation or predation.

I seem to have a penchant for finding injured wildlife, which always breaks my heart. I realize though, that much wildlife does not survive trauma, even with the best of care. We do what we can.
