| What a great summer it has been, and I once again faced the challange of....Algae! If I did not put in a UV light I had light green water, but not string algae to clog my pipes and filters. If I added a UV I got clear water with tons of string algae. Did lots of water changes with source water full of phosphates. What is a poor ponder to do?
This year I added a 200 gallon upflow filter with lots of water plants from the skimmer circuit. Added a small shower type filter between the settling pond and main pond, and have the settling pond full of watercress and WH. I also added Floating Island Planters. Here are the pics.
In this pic you can see the milk crates that house the lily planted at 4 feet depth.
Here are some floating planters sucking up extra nitrates from the pond and adding shade.
These guys are always looking at me for food. I have known them for about 11 years. So far they are okay and I am starting to like them.
Settling pond in which Jenny's frog lives. He has been vacationing with me for a year now. I am going to start charging rent.
My DIY filter. Turn a knob and the junk drains out. Genious!!!!!! Seriously though, this is just some window well covers from Home depot connected to some concrete blocks, some liner and PVC pipes and lots and lots of mish mash filter material and Savio Springflow. Lots of Watercress in here.
Hope you enjoyed the tour.
Regards,
