Hi folks, first off i just want to say WOW, i've just looked at some of the ponds you guys have made and they are stunning and make my first attempt look amature, but that said i've included a couple of photos of my pond, it is 4ft at the widest point by approx 6 1/2 ft long and at the deepest end it is 3ft and the shallow end it is 1.5 ft deep, i have a small downward stream stepping towards a waterfall,i have a lotus pump supplying the waterfall wich gives it a good flow and a seperate pump for the filter, i have not filled the pond fully , just enough to check i was happy with the flow of the waterfall and the filter system, well tell a lie i did fill it right up at first only to discover that the far side of the pond was to high above the water level leaving a lot of the pond linner showing, so i had to remove the rocks and soil plus plants and lower it down untill it was level all round, it never looked wrong untill the water went in (lesson lernt, use a spirit level lol)anyway it is nearly empty at the moment due to draining it off to make the ulterations, i have ordered some pond plants wich should be here soon and i have my chlorine remover and good bacteria to add to it when i fill it up again oh and i have to add some gravel to the bottom, white i think so the fish when i get them can be seen nice and clear, i may leave it till the end of the coming winter before i add fish, the plants and nature will have time to do it's thing then, it's been hard work but it i think it's coming on nicely, worst part was digging out over 3 tons of soil/clay on my own, never again lol
anyway if i've done this right here are a couple of pics for you to see, please feel free to coment, good or bad, i can take it.you might need to copy and paste the links.

Great job for first time. Are those really long rocks that are cut or something else in the 1st pic? Must have weighed a ton if they were! It is very quaint. Really like your stream combined with your plant choices in the 2nd pic. I would advise against putting rocks in the bottom of the pond...you should be able to see your fish anyway....it makes cleaning out the pond more difficult in the future. Enjoy, Flora |

| Hi Flora, thanks for your comments, the rocks are single ones, to make the stepped stream i used 4 small pathing stones then placed the rocks along the sides then so it did'nt look to flat on the surface of the pathing stones i cemented the top of them and ran my fingers through it to make it look more natural then added the small pebbles when it had all set i used pond sealer to waterproof the cement so no lime escapes into the water all this was built on top of pond liner so if any water does escape it should find it's way back to the pond, i understand what you say about the stones in the bottom but i could'nt resist, i've started putting some in,and have some more yet to add, i've got some especialy for use in ponds, it's like a coral type stone, it's good for good bacteria to live in wich will help to act as a natrual filter i've also started to add some plants (oxygenators) wich you can see in the deep end and ther are 6 floating plants (frogbit) wich will multiply and create some shade for the fish when i get around to buying some, also on the left of the pond i've made a path type thingy lol out of mortar wich when it sets hard i will remove the black plastic bag from underneath, waterproof it and then place it back on the pondside and fill it right up, it does'nt look like it from the picture but it is moulded into small step like slopes so any wild life that goes in can climb out, like frogs and newts and anything else that jumps in for a swim, thought i'd do this as the edging stones overhang and nothing would be able to get out, i've put some more photos up to look at, i know it still looks abit bare but hopefully when everything starts to multiply and grow it should start to look better i just need to be patiant and wait. |

| Right then i've filled it right up now and have the waterfall going, just got a nice steady flow, just waterproofed the climbing out steps for frogs and newts, just waiting for it to dry so i can place it in and put some more plants around it, do need to get some more plants to go in the bottom as well, i also have a Japenese maple tree growing in my greenhouse and a huge pot for it to go in wich will be placed to the left side of the pond eventually, i already have on that grows over the stream section wich i think looks nice, anyway i've put some more pics up for you to see, i think it's coming on nice, but thats what i think. |
