Looking Back

About 5 years ago I decided a backyard pond would be something nice to have. I only had one place to build, so I designed a 6x9', not especially creative pond. But I thought it was nice situated at the base of a slope and started digging.

First Pond

It wasn't long before I was knee deep in clay mud and bottomless ground water. But I thought I was doing well. I asked my wife to come take a look, expecting praise and encouragement. She said, "What's this little thing? Dig into the slope, make it bigger." So we ended up with this

Necklace

This was certainly bigger and into the slope. It also was the stone necklace, to say the least.

Over the next years we worked to soften and disguise the raw stonework. I put in turf at the patio edge and she began planting and planting. I think at this point we have sort of a mature pondscape.

Mature South

Mature North

I appreciate the encouragement to "go bigger," truly enjoy what we created together. Hope you enjoy the retrospective.
