Beautiful yellow koi turns orange!?!?

| Good day to you all. I have had a bight, shiny, yellow koi for about 4 years. He is about 13 inches, and has always done great in the winter as well as the other koi and goldfish in my pond. Here in NJ we had a pretty good cold snap for a couple of weeks, and the pond was covered in ice about 4 inches thick, which is usual. I have a pondmaster filter in the ponds that I run all year around, so the middle has a nice large hole, but with the thick ice, I cannot see the fish. Last weekend, we had warmer weather , and the ice is all gone. I went out to check on the fish, and I no longer have my bright, shiny yellow koi, but a large orange koi! I am completely baffled by this, as I said I have had him for 4 years, and he always stayed the same color before. Any ideas?? Thank you, as always for all your wonderful help. |

| I have had no luck at all keeping a Koi yellow. It seems to be connected to age and/or ph and other factors such as food.. The most recent was a nice bright yellow as the temperatures dropped two years ago. When they warmed up again, it was a lovely metallic gold. It stayed that color all summer and fall. The only thing I am wondering is how you managed to keep it yellow for so long. |
