I've whined rhetoically, there must be some use for string alga

On these pages in times passed I've whined rhetorically, there must be some use for string alga. Over the weekend I saw a 1921 issue of Popular Science magazine that showed a picture of a girl who had knitted a sweater out of string alga. I've enough alga, know all I need is some needles, a pattern, and a few years of knitting instructions.
