I'm wondering, since that is a small amount of water, if I couldn't just direct it away from the house to an area that might have a plant that likes wet feet, but is okay with dry ones, rather than a using a filtering system that might be needed by a larger family.

We live in a rural community in a home built in the 50's. The house was originally plumbed for the wash water to run out to a row of trees in a ditch cut to water them. It still works. I do have to clean out the ditch occasionally.

No one else jumped in here so I am going to try and see if I under stand. My understanding of a bogg filter is you want to run your pond water through it then back into your main pond to clean your water. If this is the case you can't use the washer water. If it is a stand alone bog just for a wet area. I personally wouldn't do that. Your going to bread mosquitoes. Water has to have movement not all the time but I run my ponds either one time per day or several times per day to turn the water over. Give the fish some air and filtration. But if your talking about an area that just sits and just gets water when you do wash I think your asking for problems. I you want a marsh area hook it up with your main pool and then you will have the water flowing through it and you can put some minnows in there to keep the place in check. If the water is not going into the pond, you don't need a filter. Don't know how soap residuals would affect bog bugs. They generally don't like it.
Best bet is probably just to use it for landscape irrigation. I have some pretty happy cactus, creosote and agave that receive unfiltered washing machine water.
Bottom line is you're conserving resources which is a good thing.
