zone 4 Tucson, AZ

This is a chlorine swimming pool now, and the goal is to turn it into a swimming pond. I should have made that clear in my first post. Does that make a difference in your responses?
Is it safe to use roof runoff in a body of water that people will be swimming in, too? Size is about 15x30x4 about 11000 gallons of water.

I don't see why not as long as you have an adequate filter in place. Why waste it, unless it goes in the landscape, of course.
Here's one of my ponds that takes all the water off my house roof. If there were any toxins that would hurt a person it wouldn't allow all this growth. I wouldn't drink it though. ;-)
I do get a lot more water here near Seattle than you do in AZ.

THAT is absolutely beautiful--thanks so much for the photo. I didn't always live in a desert, and I miss that vegetation. I'm adoptable!
How do you filter your roof water? All suggestions welcome. My helper was on the roof yesterday and said it is in pretty good shape. He thought it had several years of use to it yet.
If I swim in it, how do I keep from swallowing at least some? I don't think I can. Or are you talking of regular use, as from the kitchen fauceet?
Thanks.

Here's a link to build a cheap roof-washer:

Here is a link that might be useful: First-Flush diverter

I don't use the pond for swimming. In the summer it's full of frogs and Goldfish. Runoff from the roof doesn't seem to hurt the wildlife. My house has 'comp'. The cabin below has Cedar shakes. Thuja plicata.

I have several ponds. Sometimes the kids and friend's dogs swim in the lower pond. It has frogs and fish too. Herons and Kingfishers get some of the Golfish. That's why I don't buy expensive Koi.
The cabin is a hangout I built a over twenty years ago. Man cave. ;-)
