| i have done multiple searches for this subject, found similar, but not an exact answer im looking for..
i need a pump with about 4000 gph, the pond is approx 10 feet deep. i want to be able to put a fountain, any fountain.. could be a shower head, on top of the surface to spray water in air a minimum of 5-10 feet.. just to keep water moving so mosquito's dont live in it.. i have been pricing fountain/pumps and its in the $800-$1500 range.. and its hard to believe it costs that much to spray water in the air here is a pump i found, but what i dont know is how/what to hook up to it to spray water in air.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4000-GPH-Koi-Pond-Waterfall-Pump-Low-Energy-Hi gh-Flow-/370575257568?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564801afe0 if someone has an idea w/ equipment i can buy at lowes or home depot, i'd appreciate the response.. we already have 110 power next to pond.. just need a pump and a fountain.. thanks! |

| Please give us more information about the size of the pond , it's purpose and the systems you have installed for filtration. A 10 ft tall stream of water would require a fair amount of power from a pump. You might get better results with a pipe extended above the surface of the water to reach that height. Lowes doesn't always carry a large range of items to cover every want. It depends on the store and the demand for certain products. They do have a catalog you can ask to see. |

| Pumps are rated for lift, which is the biggest detail you need to investigate. The packaging and product info will tell you that. Then you need to understand headloss, which is caused by such things as gravity, pipe diameter, obstructions, friction, changes in direction, etc. What you want to do is not necessarily easy or cheap depending on the force you want. A more narrow tube propels the water with more force than a larger diameter tube. Fountain heads are cheap and widely available. They are simply a cap that has holes or divisions that redirect water flow and can increase the force of the discharge. They are attached by pushing them onto the end of the discharge pipe. They are often included with pumps. I have acquired a box full that give different spray patterns. All just cap the end of the discharge pipe. What kind of spread do you want? Any bowl or surround of the tubing or the fountain head is pretty much ornamental rather than functional unless the tubing is really flexible. Then it can help keep it in position. Filtration is important for fountains. They rely on small holes to separate the spray and propel it. Blocking part with even a bit of algae can change the dynamics with drastic results. Debris of any sort will be a problem. Water loss will be a problem with such a tall spray. Wind will redirect the water very easily and evaporation is going to be increased especially if the spread is wide. I don't know a thing about the pump you show. I've never seen it before but then I don't buy pumps a lot. Mike in Illinois may know something about it. |
