Back when I had a nosey neighbor who was driving me to drink, I looked at fencing options.

You can get brushwood or bamboo fencing that is relatively low but high enough to keep a dog out. The lowest available is 39" but from looking at pictures I think it could be cut down quite a bit...by probably half!

You can find it cheaper by looking around. Just google brushwood fencing or bamboo fencing. One brand that seems to be popular is Gardman.

I live with 3 blind dogs that know exactly where the pond is and love to get drinks from it. They do not like to get wet so they are very careful not to fall in.

Tell your friend that dogs can smell plastic and wood but metal fencing (metal anything!) does not smell. Mine get very annoyed when I move the metal fencing.

I do have plans to put in some cedar "pilings" along one section of the pond edge as I don't want them at that spot.

Sam- I am very interested to know how you happen to live with 3 blind dogs. Do you find them or do they find you? Its good of you to be willing to take care of them.

You can put sticks around your pond and weave thin little branches through them - willow is good. It's very pretty and will gently remind your dogs to stay away. Here is info;

How about a living willow fence? I made one recently (see below) It was very easy! And all tied together with willow trimmings. :) I love the way it turned out and plan to let it continue to grow from the top. It could also be trimmed straight across and kept at a specific height, though.

Min, all 3 were born at my house - Mom and 2 daughters. They are all older and have just gone blind in the last year. A genetic condition called PRA.
Except for a few areas, I will be working on making the pond MORE accessable for them this summer. They love to get to the edge to get a drink. ChaCha loves to chase frogs and I want to make that a little easier for her.
I need to get some stones cemented down so they don't move when the dogs step on them. I'm planning on a total cleanout as soon as the water/weather gets a bit warmer. Then I can do some edge work and get it put back together.

sam- they sure are lucky dogs to live at your house. sounds like you have a big spring job ahead of you.

reads- are those willow branches stuck into concrete? i can't tell. will they branch out at the bottom? i am interested to know what is going to happen when the fence keeps growing. will it still be see through? min
