How large of an aquarium will I need for 3 pond shubunkins?

I have 3 shubunkins in an indoor pond...a framed-out preform 90 gal pond. They range in size from head to tail from 8-12+". My two new cats have become overly curious about the pond and jump over the double fence I've placed around it. I've been thinking of moving them into an aquarium. I hate the thought of confining them into something smaller since they have the length and width of this 90 gal. pond to swim. What size aquarium would be recommended? Thank you.

The pond is really not large enough for the fishies you have as it is. It is unlikely the cats will be a real problem if the fish have a place to hide. If they actually manage to get ahold of one it will be an accident. It is more likely the cats are going to regard the fish as entertainment rather than dinner. A net might work, a sheet of Plexiglas across the pond might work.

Of course some cats are more interested than others. Check the conversations side for results of a pretty kitty and an aquarium.

I think moving the cats to a aquarium is a great idea leave the Shubunkins in the pond where you can enjoy them

Most cats will not reach into water. A few will (I've heard of one that actually snagged a fish), but most won't. My cats sit on the edge of my pond a lot watching the fish or even drinking out of it. One of them has taken a few half hearted swats at the fish, but jerks back when his paw touches the water. One cat even fell into the pond once when a rock became unsteady and tipped into the water. She got back out really fast!

I would leave the fish where they are and keep an eye on the cats when they're in the same room. When you're not around to watch them, just keep the cats locked out of the room with the pond.

Another option might be to build a screen cover to put on the pond when the cats are alone with the pond.

I'm not so much afraid of the cats getting the fish as I am the cats falling into the water. It's only 16-18" deep but it did happen once. I think his back end slipped in. I heard an awful big splash and he came running out with a soaked tail and back legs. I also came into the room a few years back and found my cat looking at something on the floor. It was one of my fish. I don't know if it jumped or if he got it out. I was able to save it, though. It has since passed. LOL...put the cats in an aquarium. It would have to be ONE BIG aquarium. I have 7 cats!
