Small pond Depth VS Width

I am planning a small pond. This will be my second. In my first I used the hard kidney shaped liner (roughly 3wx4Lx2d) and I had trouble during the summer with evaporation.

I am thinking of using a flexible liner this time. Is there a problem with a pond being deeper than it is wide? I was thinking of doing 1.5 feet above ground and 2 feet under and its going to be round 3 foot across.

I can't think of that being a problem. The only thing that came to my mind is stagnation, but if you have any little pump/filter/skimmer going, the water layers will mix fine. Fishies will be much safer from herons if their pond home is deep.

Thank you Mary. I will be having a filter and pump so the water should stay nicely aerated. I am hoping this helps with the evaporation problems as well!

Aeration will increase evaporation. In summer evaporation is just part of ponding. :)
