I hear frogs again!

Might not be a such big deal to some of you who have had them all along but every single one of mine disappeared about 5-6 years ago - gone from my 3 ponds and the year-round creek where they had been making a deafening noise every night for decades. Beautiful little Pacific Tree Frogs.
Last spring I got some tadpoles from a friend who found some in her barrel pond (its an old semi-broken smaller wood barrel set into an old and sagging larger barrel which left a safe wet space for tadpoles) and I asked for a few.

You wouldn't believe how big I SMILE when I hear them again!

Congratulations! I read an article couple years ago that all kinds of frogs are disappearing fast from all over the world, I am glad that you reintroduce some into your pond. We are burried in the snow here in the east coast and won't see or hear any frog for a few month:-(

RE: I hear frogs again!

It's so wonderful to hear frogs!!! It will still be a few weeks here in the frozen north. We should hear the spring peepers in March.

A few years back we had a couple hundred tree frogs at the pond for a few weeks. The noise they made was unbelievable (and lovely) but we haven't had that many for a few years. I am hoping this year to have more smaller tubs with no fish for them to choose from.

They cleaned out the attic at work last week and I got a fiberglass tub about 18" wide, 4 feet long and about 16" deep. I think it will make a perfect nursery for the tree frogs this year.

Here are a couple pictures of a baby tree frog just leaving the pond. That is parrot feather he is climbing through. He could easily sit on the tip of your finger. sam

You are over there where you get the lake effect cool. I'm in Midland - flat and swampy. We are one giant puddle in the spring. The peepers come out here as soon as it starts melting. Any warm day and they start calling.
And I insist that spring comes early this year. LOL

wish i could send everyone our warmer weather - i know the desperate feeling that spring can't come fast enough from living for years on the east coast, and even here, as soon as the holidays are over, i get jealous of the southern california/florida gardeners. just want to get out and DIG something!

hang in there, get all the boring stuff done in the house that you won't want to be doing when your weather warms up because we all know where you will be then!

thanks for the great photos frugalgardener. i will keep an eye on my little parrot feather ponds in hopes that i can can also catch a picture of frogs. lucky you, finding another tub for a pond - can't have enough of them. i have 3 little round ones made of barrel-liners and also 3 larger ponds. (its an illness called spreading ponditis.) min

Yup Lake Effect cold and snow. Not many folks have any clue what that is all about. Im somewhere between Muskegon and Fremont. Actually going to be doing some work in Midland starting next week (on the phone)so wont be stopping by to see your pond! LOL
We do have a large bog about 1/8 of a mile across the road and before our little lake. The sound is amazingly loud but always looked forward to!
