Koi and De-Icer

I've had my pond through six winters and never lost a fish. This year was the first winter however, that I noticed all of my Koi hangin out under or next to the de-icer. I never noticed that before. Does anyone know if this is normal behavior? Could this is due to an exceptional winter? Also, when the ice melted for a few days a couple of weeks ago, two of my fish were dead. I don't know if this is related to the tempature.

I tested the pond water and it was acceptable.

No this is not normal. The reason why the koi had to come to the surface is for some reason the water at the bottom has gone bad. What needs to take place is fresh water must be added to the pond fast. It is nice if you can remove water from the pond but just overfilling the pond and letting the pond overflow will help. Luckily the ice melted off or you would have lost all the fish. But I would still change some the water.

Thanks for the feedback Mike. What you said makes sense. I wasn't able to pump out any water, but I have the hose going now and added some de-clorinator. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.
