A few days ago I bought a lotus tuber locally in Hawaii. the sign said pink bali lotus i think its a tropical variety.

anyways, it already had three stems coming out and beginning to open. two of them opened except both are tiny and a little broken, but what i have never seen before is the full purple color of the leaves.

Im not too concerned because i can see the tuber growing and white roots are just beginning to come out. I am curious though, as to what could cause purple leaves? --sometimes on my other lotus, the veins are very purple too.

Also, when using fertilizer tabs, how deep should these go down? should i shove a couple to the way bottom now, when the tuber is still sitting at the top?
