 o
worming goldfish

hi all.
just a question to all here. do you worm your goldies for internal parasites?
the reason for my question is here where I live (australia) nobody seems to, anybody that I ask says only do it if you have a problem.
I have been onto sites that seem to recommend worming them once a year as a precaution or when you add new fish.
I have about 25 goldies , different sizes and I have added at least 6 in the last year. all quarantined no problems.
But I also have lost about 3 or 4 over the last 3 years. No particular reason though , just found them dead . eating right up until they died except for the last one which got quite skinny but still ate until i had to go anyway, so i isolated him and the babysitter told me he died.
So I thought maybe I should worm them all as a precaution if thats what killed the last one.
I repeat that the ones that have died definitely did not die from anything external, that I could see>No spots ulcers etc
Any thoughts folks,

Maze, I worm all of my goldfish every year.
You can use Metronidazole, Flubendazole, Praziquantel, etc

What you are describing could also be flukes, search the internet for the formula for treating goldfish with Praziquantel for flukes. That will also get any internal worms they might have at the same time.

I did a quick google useing "praziquantel Australia goldfish" and found this link to get you started:

Here is a link that might be useful: Aquarium Products Australia

thanks very much for the info.
Have you heard of the product "mediworm" apparently its a food with worming stuff in it for all internal worms.
I will take it on board and worm my babies every year.
