Water Changes..

Hello Gang

Spring is upon most of us...

Easy question, I decided to be more religious about doing regular water changes this year and as a result my question is this;

What is the best way to do a water change?

a) Add water and let it over flow through the overflow tube of my AS Signature pro-skimmer?

or

b) Use something small like this hooked to a garden hose? http://www.amazon.com/Little-Giant-M.../dp/B0013STOOG (actually already picked one of these up on a $49 Cdn deal, but not sure whether I should be concerned that it is oil filed and the fish?)

Also while I have the ears of you experts I have a couple of under water lights with plastic housing that are on their last legs. Can you please recommend an LED replacement that can just hook to my existing transformer?

Thanks a bunch and do enjoy your day/weekends!

Dave

PS - By the way, haven't started up my Brantford pond yet. Under ground around my skimmer overflow still frozen... With the recent weather it sure has been tempting though. Usually end of Mar or Early April here. Oh well soon enough...

RE: Water Changes..

Hey, Dave. I use a sump pump to remove water when I am cleaning leaves out of the pond or just doing a water change. The excess water goes to any part of the yard that is a bit dry. It works just fine unless some of those leaves want to stick to the bottom of the pump. That can strain it a bit. To avoid that I sink a large plastic pot with enough rock in it to keep it in one place and the pump sits in that. To avoid any accidents that might empty the pond entirely the pot sits on a shelf so the pump cannot remove more than a quarter of the water. New water comes in through the primitive bottom cleaner that works with a hose. The fish enjoy it.

Sorry I can't help with the lights. I would be interested in led lights as well.

I can't help with the lights.

Letting water overflow is not a water change. It's best to do a 10% water change twice a week. It that's not possible do 15-20% once a week.
