| Those tree rats just love to use my pond as a place to dispose of their old bedding. I can't count the times I have dredged out one of their nests. This time it plugged the outlet from the Skippy and by the time I saw it, there was only 6 inches of water left of the 1,000 gallons. The fishies were all on top of each other. DH went shopping for a new hose since all we had were so cold we couldn't unroll them, and I cleared out the plug. The only thing to do was add water from the tap. It took two hours to fill the pond.
Sadly my biggest Koi didn't make it. The others seem to be fine but I am depressed. Wish spring would get here. |

| Sorry to hear about your fishes. I haven't had a problem with 'tree rats' as my cats love to present tails at the front door. I agree, hurry up spring!! Flora |

| Oh, that is such a terrifying experience - I've had it happen 3 times for different reasons though. Now I have a sump pump low water shut-off that I hope prevents that problem in the future. |

| The local laws here make it illegal for cats to be outside unless it is in their own yard. My kitty does yard guard duty but she is too well fed to make vermin her prey. She thinks they are her playmates. The critters think that too. Right now we suspect there is a squirrel in the house. I can't count the number of chipmunks that have come inside. I have even seen the critters outside chattering to get the cat outside to play. Kitty gets very upset when a bird smacks into the window. She brings it inside and dumps it at my feet and cries if I can't 'fix' it. The neighborhood is overrun with squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, moles and mice. There are shrews too but they don't seem to cause problems. The only yards that don't have a problem are the ones that have dogs that are often in a frenzy of barking when anything approaches their fence. I didn't have half the problem when we lived in the woods. I won't go into the problems of night time visitors like raccoons and opossum. The squirrels that live in our yard are way too fat and sassy. They are constantly digging up the garden and my flower pots. The number of saplings they produce each year from burying nuts is daunting and they destroy all the bird nests in reach. I finally had to stop trying to feed the birds since the squirrels tear apart the feeders. There isn't a tree in the yard that doesn't have damaged or dead branches from their chewing. I wouldn't mind a few of them but they are way too prolific. |
