| I have two pots of dwarf pond banana plants, and one of canna, sitting looking sad and miserable in my basement where they overwintered. When is the best time to put them back in the pond?
When they go back in, should I re-pot them and/or separate out any baby tubers/bulbs? Thanks |

| The temp the Cannas need is much less than the banana plants. It will be happy with a water temperature of at least 55 degrees, the banana needs consistant 65 degrees for most varieties. You might have to take them back inside if the temps drop too much. |

| Thanks for the very clear information, particularly the different temperatures these tropicals need. I'll just have to curb my enthusiasm a bit longer, and wait for the water to reach the appropriate temperatures before I put them out to re-awaken :) |

| Hi i live in s. florida and "generally" find that most tropicals will survive frost .What they do is go dormant We had record setting cold this year both in lows and duration. They looked on deaths door but are now recovering . My own opinion is that anything above 32 is survivable In fact I often find that cold temps actually refresh a lot of tropicals when temps stabilize. cannas are a particular case as during warm winters I usually have to prune to the ground because they get too much secondary growth. Weak spindly and inferior flowers. Not sure if this would apply to your situation . I wouldn't be concerned with any temps above 32 for sure. gary |
