goldfish babies

i have a 2 year old pond with 8 plain old goldfish and some mosquito fish. i've been reading on here about folks having population explosions with goldfish. the mosquito fish multiply like crazy but i've never had the goldfish reproduce at all. i also had 2 "shad" minnows of the tackle store variety that reproduced to the point i had to thin them out into the neighbors bass pond. got all of them but three (they are very fast). any ideas on how to create a habitat to encourage the goldfish to get frisky? thanks

Goldfish get frisky as soon as the water temperature gets into the high 60s and stay frisky till fall. You need some plants for the eggs to fall into so that they don't get eaten. I also wonder if your mosquito fish are eating the baby goldfish when they are tiny.

thanks for the reply. i have a pretty good bit of plant life. mostly lilies and some parrot feather. i'll add some more as the weather warms. the mosquito fish or the shad could be the predator i guess. i wish i could get all of the shad out. they are a bit aggressive.
