The raccoons are ready for the ponding season!

First thing I did when I got home from work last night was check the pond (what ponder doesn't?). I had some visitors while I was at work. The pond level was down a foot. Good thing the skimmer wasn't on yet, it was past the intake. What the......... I found the leak. It was at the top pond. The little wascals removed two pavers enough to let the liner sag down and there was water oozing out down the embankment. Once I placed the pavers back into place and secured the liner it was fine, but when I plugged the waterfall pump back in it wouldn't work. I pulled it out of the pond only to discover the watercress I was trying to prevent drying out had grew so profusely it was clogging the pump intake. Of course it was foggy, raining and only 38 degrees. How do I know it was raccoons? Their droppings were in a pile at the edge of the pond. Raccoons always return to the same place when they have to go. There is a pretty big pile already. Looks like it's time to break out the scarecrow.
