Hmm... interesting find... and by interesting, I mean that I might have had incontinence issues had I come across that snake.

We had Eastern Indigos down in Florida where we lived. They were beautiful with their jet black bodies and red bellies. We also had Gulf Hammock rat snakes there.

Yes, the snakes are defiantly out around here. Hi bwalters, we are about 15 miles north of Bulverde, TX. We are awfully dry this year so the pond is bringing in alot of wildlife. Indigos are great snakes and get pretty large, supposed to be immune to rattlesnake venom so they can catch and eat them. Our rat snakes get big too but alot more aggressive. We have a big girl (rat snake):) that has lived in a hole under a red oak for years now but I have never seen her at the pond.

I released a king snake into the masses of ground cover we have in the yard. It scared some one and I wound up with the poor thing. It was small and harmless. I suspect the squirrels had a treat. I've been thinking I should have taken it out into the countryside.

Hmm... you're not that far away from me, then- we're in N Austin- I'd guess about 70 or so miles? We see rat snakes all the time, but never these guys.

We're as dry as you, but- knock on wood- we haven't seen any snakes yet this year. Possums and raccoons galore, but no snakes yet- not even the small garter snakes.
