My water temp is still sitting at 42-43 degrees. My fish are out and ready to eat, is it too early to start feeding them ? In the morning and in the evening they out expecting food. It's still pretty chilly out, but seems they have decided to start eating.

They swimming around the surface in the morning and evenings.

I live in Vancouver BC, Zone 5, my pond is about 4.5 feet deep. I have about 10 koi ranging from small to 16", and about 10 Goldfish.

I'll usually let the fish decide. I've found once we have a few sunny days and the surface warms up the fish get hungry. Of course here in Arizona that happens around mid January.

I have read you should wait till the water is 50-55 degrees, but the cold weather food I have says you can feed them when the water is 42-70 with cold weather food. When my water temp is below 55 the fish hang out at the bottom.

We got into the 80s for a little over a week and I only fed them flake food a couple times (sparingly)We have since dropped back down to 30 or around that at night so I quit feeding them again. The early warm temps & sunshine provided an algae outbreak that they can feast on all they like for now.
