Is there a right or wrong side to a pond liner?

I am about to install the liner into my newly dug pond. There is a shiny side and a dull side to the liner. Just curious if anyone knew if there was an advantage to putting the dull side up or the shiny side up.... The place where I bought it said it didn't make a difference.

I think that dull side / shiny side thing is a result of the manuf process. I would put the printed side UP if there is a printed side.

I used regular EPDM commercial roofing material for my pond many years ago, not the specially formulated pond stuff, and I installed it with the print UP like you would see it on "flat roofs."

That way I knew that the factory seam was installed as a watertight seam, the way it is intended to be installed on roofs. (Commercial Roof EPDM have a manuf label printed directly on the rubber every 15' to 20' usually, on one side only; I've only seen them on roofs with the print side up).

There is no printing on either side. It is 40 mil LLDPE

There is no right side up on either liner. I prefer writing down.

Would you put the shiny side up or the dull side up?
