I posted late last fall about doing a final frog check in my 2 small 50 gal top ponds. I pulled 18 frogs out, 13 live 5 dead :( . One got away. I worried about that darned frog as it got to the 20s that night, and hoped it found the bigger pond ( 1/2 frozen over). I feared it would go back to the little pond. That's exactly what it did. Thunderstorms melted some of the ice last night and low and behold there is the big green froggie. It was laying on some ice but it's color was good so I knew it wasn't dead. It's going to freeze (I hope for the last time) tonight so I gently nudged it off the ice and it crawled into a crevasse in the rocks at the bottom. I don't think a frog has ever survived the winter in that pond before. The main pond is thawed and I see many of my fish. Does not seem to be any floaters but I wont know for sure till I can take the tent off and check the "fish houses". I hope to be up and running Wednesday!!!! Can't come soon enough! : D

Lisa, I'm glad Froggie survived. I still am waiting "thaw". We are supposed to have warmer weather in the 40's and 50's this week, so hopefully I'll be able to see my pond. Right now it is all WHITE! Anne

I sure hope we are done with "white". I got antsy and pulled the ice off my 2 small top ponds today. It had thawed enough to pull away from the edges. I emptied the top 50 gal pond then turned on the pump and water falls. I added the 50 gals back in to the main pond with ariated water from the hose ( well water) The tent is still on but from what I can see......everybody looks good!

Pashta, I am just south of the Adirondacks, zone 5a, my yard now is clear of ice and snow. My 7 gold fish are still in the basement, my little pond is not cleaned out yet, made a new cover with black netting to keep herons out. I see two grey frogs which seem to move. Bernd

I believe my Mr Big Froggie wintered over in my tiny plant-only pond this year. The pond was a mess in the spring as I don't even run air to it over winter and let what leaves fall stay there. I was cleaning it out as it smelled horrible and up popped Mr BF. I dropped him into my big pond where he is still slumbering under a piece of slate.

Hi Ernie....I know you don't mind if your Mr BF eats your birds.... I can have NONE of that since I am a Bird Sanctuary. Coffee on the deck and hearing the Frogs singing in the near by rushes today was GREAT! The tent is off my pond, the fish look good and so far I have 4 Frogs awake and venturing out of the pond. (I had a little peeper Tree Frog on my glass slider door tonight) AAAHHH Spring! FINALLY! AND Ernie (my cat) says hi! LOL
