| I HAVE A LARGE POND, APPROX 50,000 LITRES AND 6 FT DEEP IN PLACES WITH A BLAGDON SUBMERSIBLE PUMP (90W) SERVICING A WATERFALL FEATURE VIA A FISHMATE UV FILTER TANK. THE POND HAS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED FOR 5 YEARS AND IS HOME TO ABOUT 150 FISH INCLUDING KOI, ORFE, TENCH AND SHABUNKINS ETC. WITHIN DAYS OF CLEANING THE PUMP IT QUICKLY BECOMS BLOCKED RESTRICTING THE FLOW TO THE WATERFALL. THE WATER IS CLEAR OF DEBRIS AND IT SEEMS JUST THE SILT IN THE POND IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. MY QUESTION IS, IS THERE A REVERSIBLE PUMP AVAILABLE TO 'BLOW' THE SILT OUT THE OTHER WAY PERIODICALLY TO SAVE HAVING TO KEEP PULLING THE PUMP OUT, STRIPPING IT DOWN, CLEANING IT AND PUTTING IT BACK TOGETHER AGAIN. THANKS. |

| I have no idea how many gals that many liters is even though we use liters now in Canada. I was taught the old system. However, for your pump which I also don't know what it looks like I do have a suggestion. If it could be put inside some kind of container you could build what's called an Adam's filter. The pump sits in the box (plastic tub with a lid) which has layers of green filter mats--or kitchen scrubbing mats as long as they don't have any chemicals and quilt batting. I used this when I had a submersible pump. You cut an outlet in the side of the box for the pump and use a drill to drill 1/8" to 1/4" holes spaced about 1" apart in the box lid for intake. This system worked for me but I still had to clean it weekly or more. Little Giant pumps also had a net bag with filter pads placed around the outside and the pump slid into the bag with the outhose out the top of the bag. Easier than Adam's filter but still I pain. Because I found cleaning submersible pumps a pain plus either getting or reaching in the pond to get it I switched my system out to an external pump. Mine runs on a retrofit (over the liner bottom drain) and a skimmer. Again not familiar with your filtration but with an external pump it may be possible to run the pump to your Fishmate filter but you still would need to figure out some kind of exit from the pond to the pump. Hope I've given you some food for thought. |
