My lazy way of repotting

Its getting harder and harder for me to do some things in the yard, so I'm learning to take short cuts. Maybe you all have always done this, but it just occurred to me last year. I have my my waterlilies in pots that are about 20" across and 8" deep.
I used to dump them out and thin them, then repot them. Now, I pull them out of the water, cut half of the plant out with a shovel, and refill with dirt.
They're supposed to be planted to one side of a pot anyhow.....so this works out great.
Am I the last one to think of this? :)
