What are these ducks planning?

Two ducks, a couple, flew in on the pond about two weeks ago, when the ice was breaking up. They have been back nearly every day since. They fly in just after 6 AM and they often stay until 8 PM. I have fed them nothing at all.

My pond is roughly 1/4 pie, 12x12x21 feet and somewhere around 1400 gallons. It's about a half mile to Lake Michigan and about a half-mile to the Milwaukee River.

I was planning to drain the pond this month, install a bottom drain and make some other minor improvements. I have no fish or plants yet and this is the third year the pond has been in operation.

Aside from the massive quantities of poop they leave behind, they are not bothering me and it is fun to quack at them and look at them.

This couple apparently doesn't understand English, or are just ignoring me, and I know nothing about ducks, so I am asking you:

1. Are they planning to lay eggs here?
2. Where are they going at night?
3. Should I attempt to shoo them away?
4. Will they leave when I crank up the skimmer pump and fountain?

There are ducks that have been stopping at my parents pool for 30 years. Somewhere nearby they had a nest and the ducklings would visit everyday. They still came by when the pool was open.

Chances are that you'll have your pond refilling overnight so the earth won't break the walls and the ducks won't mind a day without it.

They will go to the marshes for protection or somewhere else.

Every spring I have duck visits to my pond.I have been told by 2 pond experts that they carry diseases and parasites and that I should shoo them away.I do shoo them away because I don't like the big globs of poo they leave in and on the rocks around my pond.I just don't like the idea of rain h20 washing that poo from the rocks into my pond.I mean big globs!!I don't feel bad about this because there is plenty of h2o around here There is a creek behind my yard. When I shoo them they go swim in the creek.I have been told ducks will eat fish.I have never seen them trying to eat mine.

We have just had our ducks return to our pond for the first time this year (first time was last year). We made a duckhouse, and have noticed they have just laid an egg, my concern is that they are not sitting on the egg, why would this be? will it still survive? what should we do?
