Horton, Thank you for the site, that is one of the many that I checked before post my question here and found it to be of little use. Maybe I am not using the site correctly, I can not see where it tells if a plant is ever green in my zone.

CC, Vallisneria americana stays green in aquariums all year round at 70°F or there about.
You don't have your Climate Zone or area in the USA listed., but the plant grows all over North America.
I'm sure in the winter in the colder/cooler regons it will die back and return in the warm weather.

CC, that should have read "grows just about all over North America in the wild".

Horton, I am in USDA 9, Sunset 14. One of the things that I do not want is to add a large dying bio-mass to the pond at the end of the year. At this time I have about 15,000 gallons between 3 ponds and I am looking at putting in some more.

Does somebody need an answer to a question about American Eelgrass?

CC, most plants will die back or go into a rest period but whether you would end up with a "large dying bio-mass" I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable about the plant in question to say.
Maybe an idea to contact the USDA for that information. It would be interesting to read their answer.
