Crinum?

Soooo...

My nephew in GA sent me what appeared to be a small potato with a green sprout (soooo unlike a potato sprout!)and this "tater" has grown into a plant somewhat like an amaryllis. He and his mother said it was a type of lily that gets huge, and has white spidery like blooms. From what I can find on here, it appears to be a type of Crinum, a member of the amaryllis family (? Bog lily?). My nephew says his is growing in dry conditions and only gets watered when it rains. From what I have read, the type that grows wild in Georgia can tolerate standing water. Hmmmm..... Have any of you ponders tried them in your ponds and what were the outcomes? If what I have is what I have seen on the internet, they would be lovely!
