| Hi, I'm randy and visited here a long time ago. I have a couple of earth ponds, but have long wanted a garden pond for the front yard. Finally I've embarked on that journey, along with the rest of you. But I'm pretty incompetent at this point. I have the hole in the ground, the carpet underlayer, the liner, and some pieces of concrete forming a cheap ring around the perimeter, to hide the edge of the liner. The question I have is, can I just pick up a cheap throwaway bathtub, set it by the edge of the pond and use it as a filter? It already has a drain hole, and an overflow hole where water could either enter in from a pump or exit into a waterfall and back into the pond. Is this a stupid idea? How is this any different from a large rubbermaid container? Thanks. (My pond is somewhere between 2 and 3000 gallons, perhaps 8 x 16 x 3.)

| Hi Randy. You could definately have a bathtub filter. The only drawback is that it is relatively large for the small amount of water it holds, rather heavy and won't be very useful when it starts to rust. I can imagine a claw foot tub, painted creatively and filled with water hyacinth. :) Lisa |

| Randy, That sounds like a GREAT idea to me. I think that could be a very interesting filter. Please take pictures!!! |

| Thanks for the advice/replies. I was thinking not of a heavy bathtub, but of a cheap plastic kind--some are quite large. I could bury it in a hill next to the pond. But maybe it would just be easier to purchase the rubbermaid? We'll see, and yes, I'll take a few pictures if I get around to actually doing it. Randy |
