Tampa Bay ponders

For those of you in the Tampa Bay area (especially Pinellas county) I have bad news and good news. No, this not a good news/bad news joke. This rotten economy has claimed another victim. Adam's Nursery in St. Pete has had to close down. The road construction in front of their place didn't help either. Too bad, too. I found them to very helpful and a good place to get all kinds of stuff for your pond, including rocks, supplies, aquatic plants and fish. I am sorry to see them go. It seems there are fewer and fewer places for us ponders around here to get our "fix" of pond stuff.

The good news is someone is taking over the facility so those of us in the St. Pete area have not been totally abandoned. Jeff's Koi House in Largo, from whom I have bought many amazing koi for my pond, is expanding to two locations by moving into Adam's place. This is good news for us here because I have found Jeff to know what he is talking about. He has great prices too. I know this forum isn't about commercials and that's not what this is. I just figured that if you live around here and have seen Adam's nursery closed, don't despair. It will soon reopen under new management.

I buy stuff online as I suppose everyone does, mostly for better prices. But what we lose shopping online is that friendly personal touch and that is what I have always gotten at places like Adam's Nursery and Jeff's Koi House. Sometimes the better price isn't always the better deal. I guess if we don't want to see more of our local businesses like Adam's close, we need to make sure to support them by shopping locally. Just a thought.
Perhaps, those of us who communicate via this forum can share with the rest which are our favorite local pond and fish dealers? I sometimes hunt online for businesses in the Tampa Bay area that sell pond stuff (koi, aquatic plants, and other supplies but don't really see many out there. In addition to Adam's, where else do you shop for your pond and garden, Babalu_aye?

Since discovering Adams' a few years ago I really haven't gone anywhere else (except online) for pond supplies. My pond is very small (200 gal), so I don't really need to buy much for it. I've got Parrot's Feather and a tropical blue Water Lily that I got from Adams'. They were very helpful in helping get the chemistry of my pond water balanced. They also drilled a hole in the bottom of a huge ceramic pot for me so I could use it as a water feature (separate from the pond). Their great service will be missed.

I will definitely have to check out Jeff's Koi House since I don't really know of any other local places.

Is there anyone else out there in the Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater area who would like to share with the rest of us where you shop locally for pond fish and supplies? In addition to me, has anyone else shopped at Adam's or Jeff's Koi House? Where have all the Tampa Bay ponders gone?

I was just there this morning for a workshop on how to build a primitive fire pit. Bought some rocks and a turtle spitter on sale. Great place too!
