I just got a wonderful healthy looking plant at my local nursery, it was marked Hawaiian Ginger and I have to idea if I should or should not cover the tubers with water in my pond. Please help if you know anything about water culture on this plant. Thanks.

I don't know about growing them in water, but I used to have them around my house when I lived in Houston. The roots were just under the surface of the ground, sort of like Iris. The flowers were beautiful and the smell was out of this world. Good luck!

I've got the tubers just below the surface but I'm really worried that it will be too deep.

Hi
Would this be "butterfly ginger?? Hedychium coronarium??
or Kahili ginger.?? There are several hundred members to the family not to mention hybrids. If either of the above
they do fantastic in water but try to keep the corm slightly abovee waterline until you get good growth..
I suspect that others might do well also but some require a rest period so might rot??

Keeping a plant's crown above the water is key to most plants growing. and you'll be surpried what can be grown in a pond - many land plants

Thanks so much! I'll be giving it a bit of a lift.

Most of the gingers I have grown from tubers like very free draining soil, not submerged. The tubers should be laid flat just barely covered, not vertical. I'm not an expert, but I have successfully grown over a dozen varieties.
