Congrats on making the pond bigger! I am attaching a link to Koishack, where you will find loads of construction photos. Are you planning on putting in a bottom drain? Use of a bottom drain will make pond maintenance a breeze. My pond is 4' deep and 9000 gallons and I NEVER have to clean the pond, only the filters. Its the only way to go!

I thought about putting a bottom drain in my garden pond, which I just built. It is on a hill, and it would've been very easy to put a drain in there. However, I didn't like the idea of poking a big hole in the bottom of my liner, and so opted for making use of an in-pond pump that is used primarily for draining. It will drain the garden pond in short order. I know this because I've partly drained part of much-larger earth ponds with it. But I suppose either way there are pluses and minuses?

I have never, ever had a bottom drain leak. They are incredibly easy to install, although it is a bit nerve-wracking to cut that hole out the first time you do it. If the drain is set in a bed of concrete so it can't settle and you use a nice thick bead of silicone between the flange and the liner, there is no way for them to leak. The bottom drain is not really used for draining a pond though, it is attached to the filter.
