| I was so glad to see my water lilies starting to provide some cover, because my neighbor believes a hawk (or some bird) is getting some of her fish.
BUT yesterday when I was feeding my pond made up of Koi, Sarrasa Comets, and fantails, I noticed my giant white, male comet is gone! He was one of my first fish, given to me from a friend's pond.... and he was so long and had the best fins of any of my sarasas. He had to be a foot long!!! I hope some of his babies turn out to look like him. I guess a bright white fish WOULD be one of the first nabbed... I hope my others are safe! Chris |

| Commiserations on the loss. It is always the fish that catch your eye that catches the eye of the herons and hawks. We have a tendency to forget they are very successful predators until it is too late. |

| Chris... sorry for your loss. I know how dear fish can become to us. Anne |

| Sorry about your fish. Perhaps make a floating planter for cover until the lily gets big enough? |

| Sorry for your loss. I just lost 3 very nice comets I had for 2 years now, something picked them out and left pieces behind so I doubt it was a bird (or a cat cause that would be one huge hungry cat to eat all 3 in one night.) Birds look down and dive in for the picking which is very effective cause the fish don't have time to react. Netting would help (and I hate nets too). My critter sneaked in at night and probably waded in for the kill. I suspect the possum that roams our neighborhood. |

| ernie m - I can pretty well assure you, your critter was a raccoon. They will reach in to find fish, trash your plants and even get IN the water to get the fish. Cats actually don't "fish" they like to drink moving water and fishy tasting water. Birds are a possibility, but I doubt it. My money's on a raccoon (or two). |
