Very high oxygen demand...what does that mean water is unsafe

My husband doesn't want to remove the algae from the rocks in the bed of the waterfall. Will this hurt the water...having to much oxygen? We don't have fish or plants in it. But animals drink from it.

As you can see from the photo why my husband feels as he does of not removing it. It is thick and the rock bed is long. We have different drops along the way in our waterfall...also at the base of the disappearing waterfall..

I didn't word that right...he doesn't wish to remove the algae before treating it with peroxide. Which in facts on algae stated "high oxygen demand"...

Well...after a friend came over of my husbands. Who liked the algae...we have decided to use a new toilet brush and remove some of it from the rocks and leave it as is...no treating! Problem solved... :O)

Well, I'm glad your friend liked the algae. So do I. I occasionally remove some rock bound algae when it changes waterfall patterns. Mostly, I just leave it for looks.

Chas...I'm with you on the algae. I think it looks more natural...and well established. We used a scrub brush with long handle to remove a bit here and there as you say disrupts the water flow. Other than that I'm happy we're leaving it be.
