How much visibility is considered clear?

Posted by casiocarcharger (My Page) on

My water (new pond) finally cleared, and I can see to the bottom of my pond (30') somewhat.

I still see lots of suspended particulates, however.

Is this as clear as it gets? Or will filters, UV, etc. be able to turn my water so clear it looks drinkable?

Here is a link that might be useful: can I make it more clear?

My water appears *drinkable* and has been consistenly that way since I added a skippy 3 yrs ago.

What type of filtering system do you have in place now? Being it's a new pond, patience and plants might well be all you need but there's not enough details here to determine, imho.

'Course my answer to every question about water clarity is plants, patience and a skippy! My lil puddle is 7 yrs old and I've never 'added' anything other than the skippy filter...no chemicals, additives or UV's whatsoever. The skippy made all the difference.

Happy ponding!

Maybe add a Trickle Tower and use Quilt Batting in it. That seems to take out the suspended particles for me. I also have a skippy.

I've also been told the goldies don't mind the algae in water...just me.

I too have a skippy filter and nice clear water. Does your pond have any kind of filtration at all? If not, then it looks pretty good to me.

I use quilt batting in front of my skimmer mat to strain out the suspended particles.

Skippy and plants here too.
Looks like you have lots of plants. Probably just needs more time, but I use quilt batting around my pump for a few weeks in the spring too and it really "strains" out the suspended junk. (Replace it often! It'll clog up fast!)

This is a personal preference. Greener water is not attractive and you can't see your fish. Crystal clear water usually begets string algae. I like crystal clear water myself but my fish would be happier if it was a little green.

i guess its a personal opinion but if you are asking, my guess is that you wish it was a bit more clearer.
My pond was like that. I added a UV and it made it that desirable "drinkable" colour , you know the one. Clear.
I know a lot of people don't seem to like UV's , I don't know why. I love mine. Made a huge difference. would not be without it.
And a appropriate size filter. skippy or otherwise.
Hang in there, you will get there

I can't believe it.. my water has now turned so clear it looks 98% drinkable! I have a lot of hornwort at the bottom of the pond, and about 20 hyacinths.
