Sooo lush already, the pond is looking gorgeous as ever! Thanks for brightening my day!
How are the koi? Everyone make it through the winter alright?

S, We sadly lost little Red Nose this winter.
Don't know why...It's the first koi we ever lost.
He was 11 years old, and will be greatly missed.
He was always swimming all over the place with his little
red nose out of the water...

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear about little Red Nose. I've never lost a koi yet, but I have one that I suspect of having a tumor or a cyst in her abdomen. I've been keeping an eye on her and she has not yet started showing any discomfort, but I know the day will come and I'm not looking forward to it.

As always, your pond is lovely. I always look forward to seeing new pictures of your backyard and pond.

The pond looks fabulous as always. Love the play of color both in the plants and the Koi. Sorry about Rednose- what a beauty he was.

Joann - as usual, you give us all something to strive for! Your pond is exceptional. You're my hero!

Awww, sorry about little red nose. That is so sad. Isn't it amazing how attached we can become to fish?

I am always in awe of your pond pictures. In the second picture, maybe it's the dog leg, how deep is it? Your fish look like they are sitting on top of the water.

Thanks for the pics.

Cliff & JoAnn:

So sorry to hear about little red nose. He was such a beautiful fish.

On the brighter side.........everytime I see pics of your pond I feel like I am in Paradise. I just know there is a pond like yours there. I can't imagine seeing it in person.

Thanks so much for posting your pics.

Thanks Ladies for your understanding. He was a special little guy.
Anne, the dog leg is about 18" deep. The rest of the pond goes from 2' to 3 1/2'.
Our fish are top swimmers and always
look like their out of the water.

Funny thing...a few days ago Cliff was reading an article about ponds and koi.
The article said that Koi are bottom feeders
and stay on the bottom of the pond, that's why
you have to feed them floating food so they have to come
to the surface to get the food, then you can see them.
We just laughed.

I heard the same thing about koi - that they stay on the bottom most of the time and need to be enticed to come up. Mine do go to the bottom for a noon-day siesta, but the rest of the time during the day they're swimming on the surface, often with their heads out of the water.

If I'm standing at the patio door, they often see me and swim over to this end of the pond, and they follow me all around the edge. If I'm doing something different, like adding another plant to the edge or rearranging the coping stones, they're right there, checking it all out.

My kitty was sitting on the edge of the pond recently trying to get a drink out of the pond, and the stone she was on slipped in -- along with her. There she was, paddling to the edge with the fish right be hind her, checking her out! They're incredibly inquisitive.

nancy, my kids got me a flip video camera for Mothers Day.
I've been playing around with it. Here is the shy "bottom
feeders" watch Silver, she actually 'beaches' herself up the rocks in the beach...
Bottom feeders, LOL.
well, I guess some people have bottom feeders, we have koi
that swim out of the water onto the rocks.

Here is a link that might be useful: Bottom Feeders in action :)

Beautiful video and gorgeous friendly fish! Thanks for posting the link. It was almost as good as being there. No bottom feeders in that pond! ;-)

Here's another short video of the 'bottom feeders'
knocking over the pots in the dog leg. :(

Here is a link that might be useful: more bottom feeders...are we having fun yet?

I want to cry, your videos are so wonderful. Thanks for sharing with those who have little tiny ponds that aren't big enough for koi!!! I could, (and probably will) watch them over and over.
Anne
PS: BTW, I am thankful that I have even a tiny pond

Great videos. I've looked at all the pictures on your website (numerous times, in fact), and if there was one pond in the world I've wish I could see in live action, it would be yours. The videos allows that, and I love seeing your fish swimming and getting into mischief.

Thanks for that wonderful video! The sound of the water was so peaceful! I think that one on the right would actually come out of the water for food!
