 o
Question for Lotus growers....

I received several tubers from a very nice lady who lives in my area. (Thanks Teri904) I didn't want to plant them in the pond, so I buried the bottom half of a 55 gallon barrel in the ground. I planted them using Joyce's recipe and have added water. So far, I have added water to just slightly below the growing tips where new leaves are sprouting. My question is this: Do I go ahead and completely cover the tips? How deep can the water be? I have another 6" from the top of the barrel where I can add more water. Here are some pictures that might show you what I mean.

Fill it up. Those leaves that are showing should be floating.
4-6" of water above the tuber is good. I never put rocks on top of mine.

You don't want to cover the floating leaves, though, right?

Fill it up as much as you can but keep the floating leaves floating on top of the water?

I didn't cover any of the growing tips, but I wasn't sure whether to add the water now or wait. Thank you. Gotta run outside and add water. :)
