So the weather finally warmed up and my first lotus started to take off - imagined an excited me..

..Until I come home from work to find that a squirrel sheared off one of the shoots. I thought I had got it out of the water and raised into the air quick enough - but it has started to rot. I know once these break they're done for. Is there any way to save this (remove it completely, etc) that I just don't know about or is it completely doomed?
