| We lost our favorite fish this evening. Bandit, our beautiful silver longfin, never recovered from a brutal spawn yesterday. I thought she was doing all right, she was swimming slowly, and eating the eggs along with the other fish. But then I found her a short time ago, on her side. Tried to revive her by holding her upright and moving her back and forth to force water through her gills, but she gave up. The picture was taken two years ago, and she was even prettier this year, with even longer fins. The sanke above her was one of the males doing the battering. No, I don't blame him, but I am starting to see why some people dislike the males.

BUMMER! It does always seem like it is the fav that Calamity strikes. I was at a pond store a few days ago, and a gent had picked out a new koi(looked like yours)and he said he is gonna call it Angelina Jolie...cuz it is so dam sexy!!!lol! It made me chuckle! |

| Thanks. I'll be visiting the breeder again soon to see if they have one similar to her. She was so graceful swimming around the pond, and we really miss her. |

| Nancy, OH I hated opening this thread as I knew it was going to be SAD! So sorry about your loss. Bandit is beautiful. The spawning part is the one thing I really dislike about having pond fish. I hope you find just the right fish to help ease your pain. Anne |

| She's so beautiful. Although I'm very new to ponding, I can imagine how you must feel. I am becoming so attatched to my little fishies. We have had them now for about a month or so (give or take) and I am really enjoying them. :) We have a silverish colored butterfly Koi that I imagine will grow to look like Bandit. I can only hope that ours will be as beautiful as yours. I'm very sorry to hear of her passing :( |

| In case anyone is wondering about the name, she was originally believed to be male because she was so long and slender, not robust at all like females usually are. Anyway, she had these dark markings under her eyes, almost like part of the mask of a racoon, and my sister said she looked like a "bandit". The markings are visible in the picture. |

| I'm sorry for your loss. I know the feeling. One week ago our power was out for 26 hours and my very favorite koi were killed. Pinky was over 20 and the mother to many of the others. She and Pinky Jr were so tame and gentle. I'm not friends with the remaining koi. |
