Too many toads?

| Two years ago goodkarma gave me some toadpols. This year two females laid eggs. There were three males who trilled throughout the night for about 6 weeks. Even though a toad trill sounds nicer than a green frog twang, the near constant sound left me sleepless for weeks. I now have hundreds of toadpols. It is remarkable how they clean the pond of ALL algae. If three toads managed to drive me nuts what will this new crop do to my peace of mind? |

Nosambos, wait until you have fifty or more toads screaming all night. You will think the green frog's twang sounds like Pavarotti in comparison! LOL "Horton" |

| I have been trying to get toads for years, to no avail. However, I can hear my 8 bullfrogs gettin' their screech on out there now. lol |

| LOL, Horton! I haven't had 50 screaming at the same time, but I swear the dozen or so that are out there try to out-do each other. Most of my toadlets don't return the following year. I'm sure they're getting picked off by birds, run over by cars, mauled by cats and dogs, and what have you. I'm amazed at how smart toads can be though. Until she roused too early this spring and died in an early spring freeze, this plump gal used to sit in my cat's food bowl on the patio step waiting for unsuspecting beetles to come over the edge hoping for a meal, only to find themselves the main course! She spent her days napping under an overhanging blanket in the cat's bed, and then hop out to the pond at night.

| Hi Nosambos: Glad to hear how successful your toadpoles are doing. Goodkarma gave me some toadpoles this spring, plus I got a bunch of them from my s-i-l's pond (kept them in a wading pool). I went out to feed the fish yesterday morning and had to watch where I was stepping. There were toads everywhere. At first I thought they were grasshoppers, till I looked closer. They are so cute.
