| We are picking up several really big fish tomorrow and they will be coming home in large totes. The water they were living in was a pea soup mess and mine is clean and clear so I don't want to dump their water in my pond. How do I acclimate them without killing them with shock? |

| Get some battery powered aerators for those totes. You can get them at Walmart in the sporting goods department. I assume the pond temperatures are close to being the same since the fish are in your area? That's the only real concern. In the ideal world, you would bag the fish up, pump the bag full of oxygen and let the bags float for 30 minutes in the new pond to equalize the temperature. Since you probably can't do that, the best thing to do is just put them right in (as long as the water temp is close to being the same or yours is warmer). Just lift them out of the totes and set them into your water. |

| If I may add a suggestion to Cindy's excellent advice. Wear a pair of cotton gloves when you handle the fish. It makes it easier on both of you. The fish are less likely to have fin damage etc, and are less liable to get away from you. They are very slippery, so work with them close to your pond. Another suggestion is to add Stress Coat to the water in the totes half an hour before the transfer and also ad it to the pond water at the recommended dosage. "Horton" |

The fish are less than 15 minutes away from my house so they don't have to travel very long in the totes. I added dechlorinator to the pond yesterday, will it still be ok to add the stress cote with that in there? Thank you for the help.. I am very excited.. They are huge fish.. and we just made our pond much bigger. |

| I don't use any products like stress coat so I can't advise you on that, but do get the aerators in those totes anyway. Always be prepared for emergencies with you are dealing with koi because their lives depend on it. Without aeration, a flat tire or a traffic jam can turn a 15 minute drive into a death sentence for those fish. |

Yes you can use Stress Coat without a problem. Stress Coat also takes care of chlorine and chloramines as well as protecting the slime coat on the fish. "Horton" |

| Good luck with your fish move! I'm anxious to hear how it goes. I am getting very close to moving all of my fish to my new home, which is also less than 15 minutes from my current home. I have a range of sizes, but a few of my Koi and goldfish are really large. Let us know how the fish like their new home! |

OMG!! They are huge!! They have been in the pond since yesterday and they are wonderful and beautiful.. They are cruising the pond as if they have been there forever. My friend came over and picked some of them out before we put them in the pond, so she has a bunch too.. Thank you everyone.. I will take pictures today. |
