| Hi!
I copied my question from another post: Maybe I have a stupid question but I just bought 6 seeds of Komarowie Lotus - Nelumbo komarovii and I put them into the water. Now, a week later, they are about 4" long. Now, I have a question: May I just plant them into the mud, right now, into 1,5 meter deep water? I have a big lake and I just don't want to mess with those little Lotuses. I have noticed that my first Lotuses (grew in mud) didn't make any roots when they were in the mud - they just ROT. Now they are dead but I have new plants and seeds. Ok, my question is going confused... :D
Some pictures of the other Lotuses: https://picasaweb.google.com/103418695393090704946/Maakodu21Nadalal?au thkey=Gv1sRgCPP5vb2-ssDwLw#5612221989957371202 - those are two Lotuses which I bought before - N. nucifera. And my lake: https://picasaweb.google.com/103418695393090704946/Maakodu21Nadalal?au thkey=Gv1sRgCPP5vb2-ssDwLw#5612221994089532306 Denis |

| I have grown a lotus from seed, but I used clay soil and held the tuber down with some sand. I'm not an expert, mind you, I just had some success with growing them as an experiment to see if I coudl do it. I gave all of them away afterward. I'm thinking the mud you used might have contained some sort of fungus or bacteria that caused the tuber to rot. Also, I have my lotus pots just below the surface of the water. 1.5 meters sounds pretty deep. Hopefully, someone more knowledgable about lotus can give you better advice. |

| nancym, Denis doesn't even have a tuber. He has just sprouted a single stem from his various seeds. He is wondering if he just transplants this into mud in a pond. I'm thinking he has to grow these little seedlings quite awhile, to form a tuber, before he can even think about transplanting it into a pond. Is this true? |

| Catherinet, I would agree with that. I misunderstood -- I assumed that the previous lotuses that rotted were from tubers. Anyway, I think it should be grown out awhile before being placed in any kind of pond setting. They're pretty delicate when they're that small. |

| Hi again Denis, The pictures of where you live are beautiful. The pond is beautiful, and I love all those trees! Your dog is cute too! Here are a couple links to some articles about growing lotus from seed. I really think you need to keep them in containers until they can form tubers under the soil. Then you could put them in your pond. The tubers are their "food" for growing. I have to caution you though....if you put lotus in your pond, they will quickly take over the entire pond. Just be sure that's what you want! These articles don't talk about transplanting them into a pond, but I'm sure you need to wait a year, for it to form tubers first. Here are the links. http://www.victoria-adventure.org/lotus/lotus_babs_growing_guidelines. html |

| Chubbypoptart, I just saw your post. Your instructions are great! When do you think your lotus would be ready to plant in a pond, if you were going to do that? Do you think the second season would have developed enough tubers? I'm trying to help Denis out, even though I've never done this personally. |
|
| Hi to all! Thanks for your helping. I'll put them into the containers. I was thinking about it too, maybe some kind of hungry insect or some organism who lives there, will harm it. Denis |

| thanks im new to lotus too but as far as how mine are growing i definitely think they would do fine in a pond. but only if thats the ONLY thing you want in the pond since they get huge and will take over. they grow at ridiculous speed! lol. im not sure about that deep of water since mine only have a few inches over them. as far as what i've read they are more likely to be close to shore in the shallows, but ive seen lotus ponds before so it must work. sorry i cant help more. |

| I uploaded some pictures. |
